Active8 Managed Technologies

In Early Years, the most meaningful technology use doesn’t replace play it extends it. That’s why I’m proud to partner with Active8 Managed Technologies: a team that understands the practical realities of using devices in real settings, with real children, and real safeguarding considerations.

We first connected when I was supporting Naturally Learning to source a tablet suitable for outdoor, forest-based learning something robust enough for daily use, with strong drop resistance, an appropriate water-resistance rating, LTE connectivity, and a replaceable battery.

More recently, Active8 sponsored my workshop in Cornwall, where we showcased how the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 can be used to enrich learning outdoors. Children explored the natural world in deeper, more curious ways for example:

  • Connecting the tablet to a wireless microscope to view wildlife close up
  • Using nature and identification apps such as Seek by iNaturalist and Birdfy
  • Linking observations to real-time information through tools like a weather station

This is exactly the balance I champion at Waite.EYTS: thoughtful, adult-supported technology use that brings the digital and non-digital world together strengthening exploration, communication, and early scientific thinking, while keeping children’s wellbeing at the centre.

On the Button

Safeguarding in Early Years is never a “bolt-on”. It sits underneath everything we do from relationships and routines, to the resources we choose and the ways we communicate with families.

That’s why collaboration matters.

On the Button shares Waite.EYTS’s commitment to thoughtful, values-led practice including how we approach technology and emerging tools like AI. When organisations work together, we can move beyond quick fixes and create clearer, more consistent messages for settings, practitioners, and families.

Why this collaboration matters

In a sector where expectations are rising and digital change is constant, partnerships help us:

  • Keep safeguarding-first thinking at the centre of innovation
  • Translate complex topics into practical, Early Years-appropriate guidance
  • Support leaders to make confident decisions that protect children’s wellbeing
  • Build a shared culture of reflection, accountability, and continuous improvement

A shared conversation about AI in Early Years

As part of this ongoing work, I joined Catherine from On the Button for an open discussion about AI in Early Years exploring opportunities, risks, and the importance of adult responsibility when new technology enters children’s worlds.
